Vehicle Accident with pole down - Church Street
Thursday, August 24, 2006

SVFC, SCEMS Medic 105 were dispatched for a MVC, single vehicle into a pole, with entrapment. Initial report from 88-40 upon arrival was no entrapment, and the driver was out of the vehicle. 88-18 updated the report to include a pole snapped and dangling, and advised the incoming apparatus to stage. The vehicle had come to rest about 200 feet past the broken electric pole, and still had a 15 foot section of pole on top. Upon arrival of Engine 88-1 (Deputy 88 as OIC) safety zones were delineated and a priority call for Delmarva Power was requested. Ambulance B-88 reported to 88-40 for patient contact and found the patient to have no complaints of injuries. The use of the safety belts and the deployed airbags protected the driver from injury. After the arrival of the power company and towing service, the section of pole was removed and the vehicle removed. Deputy 88 turned the scene over to the power company, leaving fire police to assist with street closure. Engine 88-1, Rescue 88, Ambulance B-88, Traffic Control 88, Selbyville PD, and Delmarva Power on scene. SCEMS Medic 105 cancelled while enroute.
